Allusion

--

An allusion is when a story or a person mentions something from another story, history, or culture to make a point. It’s like a little reference or hint.

For example:

  1. If someone says, “He was as strong as Hercules,” they are making an allusion to the strong hero Hercules from Greek mythology.
  2. In “Harry Potter,” when characters talk about a “phoenix rising from the ashes,” it’s an allusion to the mythical bird that is reborn from its own ashes, symbolizing rebirth and renewal.
